Reducing the Lung Health Burden of Extreme Weather

In 2024, the CVS Health Foundation announced a new, comprehensive project in partnership with the Lung Association to significantly bolster the efforts of healthcare providers and organizations nationwide to address extreme weather and improve related health outcomes in their communities. The CVS Health Foundation is investing $3.5 million over four years to combat this health issue; they have already distributed nearly $1 million of the total funding in Phoenix, Arizona. Past Projects

In 2022, CVS Health partnered with the Lung Association to create Improving Asthma for All, an initiative that brought evidence-based asthma control and tobacco cessation programs to people in Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, West Virginia and Fresno County, California. The initiative included training for pharmacists and other providers on asthma management and tobacco cessation best practices for their patients.

In 2020, CVS Health stepped up to support the Lung Association’s COVID-19 Action Initiative, a $25M investment to end COVID-19 and prevent future respiratory pandemics. CVS Pharmacy locations invited their customers to donate $1, $3 or more at the register to help save lives affected by COVID-19. Customers were also able to donate online and get involved in the initiative.

For years we worked with CVS Health to raise awareness about the serious threat of lung cancer. In 2014, CVS Health became the first national pharmacy retailer to remove tobacco from their stores, part of their commitment to promote better health and became the National Presenting Sponsor of LUNG FORCE, our initiative to defeat lung cancer. Through this partnership, CVS Health supported LUNG FORCE with an annual in-store fundraising campaign and through active participation in LUNG FORCE Walks, local leadership boards and more to help raise awareness and funds for the initiative.

We have also partnered with CVS Health on several programs that allow smokers in select communities free access to our proven-effective Freedom From Smoking® program. Support for these partnerships was provided through Be The First, CVS Health's five-year, $50 million initiative to help deliver the nation's first tobacco-free generation and extend the company's larger commitment to helping people lead tobacco-free lives.
