Asthma Awareness Month

May is Asthma Awareness Month—time to raise awareness, take action and help make a difference in the lives of the more than 26 million people in the U.S. living with asthma.

During May, the American Lung Association is addressing asthma misinformation, while spotlighting our comprehensive educational programs and resources designed to empower people to effectively manage their health. Raising awareness about asthma and the need for affordable, lifesaving medications and health insurance coverage, are keys to enhancing quality of life for those living with asthma and their families.

Indoor Air Quality, Asthma, and Schools

Poor indoor air quality (IAQ) can have a negative impact on health, especially for children and those living with asthma. School-aged children spend about half their waking hours in schools, so it is important that schools have plans in place to ensure good IAQ and a healthy learning environment. Starting July 1, schools can enroll in the NEW Clean Air School Challenge, an engagement, recognition and technical assistance program aimed at empowering K-12 schools across the country to address IAQ. Participating schools will have access to resources, peer mentorship, and can apply for mini grants.

Learn more and find downloadable materials, including a new case study about one small district’s experience assessing IAQ, by visiting Lung.org/CASC
