Advancing the Cancer Moonshot: American Lung Association Welcomes New National Cancer Institute Director

Today, President Biden announced Dr. W. Kimryn Rathmell as the Director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The American Lung Association President and CEO Harold Wimmer issued the following statement regarding this announcement:

“The American Lung Association extends our congratulations to Dr. Rathmell and looks forward to working with her in our efforts to end the burden of lung cancer for families across America, especially among communities disproportionately affected by this deadly disease. 

“Dr. Rathmell's experience and leadership will significantly contribute to the success of the Cancer Moonshot. The Lung Association commends the emphasis on urgency in driving new approaches to prevent, detect and treat cancer. Cancer patients and their loved ones expect Dr. Rathmell to lead NCI to innovative solutions that reach more people, providing them with the tools required to save and extend lives.
