As the COVID-19 pandemic persists this holiday season, lung health is more important than ever. Today, the American Lung Association offers five unique gift ideas that support nationwide efforts to end lung cancer and all lung diseases, including COVID-19.
- Donate and Receive Christmas Seals. While you are purchasing your holiday cards, wrapping paper and bows, don’t forget to donate to the Lung Association to receive Christmas Seals. This tradition dates back almost 115 years and is still a staple of the holiday season. The first Christmas Seals were created to help fund the treatment of tuberculosis in 1907, and now the money goes to fund research for lung cancer and local programs to help those with lung disease live better lives. Learn more at ChristmasSeals.org.
- Honor Local Heroes with the 2022 Firefighter Calendar: The Lung Association is honoring firefighters and first responders who competed in Fight For Air Climbs across the nation to raise awareness and funds to support the Lung Association’s vision of a world free of lung disease. Top firefighting fundraisers are featured in the annual calendar alongside fire-safety tips, stats on how fires affect our lung health and more. Purchase a calendar here.
- Donate Your Car: Done with scraping snow off your windshield, paying for parking or having your car towed? Donate your old car to the Lung Association to create new hope for those living with lung cancer and lung disease. Donating your car is easy. Visit LungCars.org or call 1-888-300-LUNG (1-888-300-5864), fill out a quick form, and a tow truck will pick up your car within 48 hours. Your car donation will help fund research and programs to help people who are living with lung disease. Your donation will also count as a deduction on your 2021 taxes.
- Register Today to Climb an Iconic Venue: Take on a new challenge and climb with the Lung Association. The Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climbs are a great way to get active while supporting lung health in your community. This year, the legendary stair climb events will return to iconic stadiums and buildings throughout the country. Find a climb near you, sign up yourself, and/or gift a registration to your friends or family at FightForAirClimb.org.
- Shop for A Cause on Lung.org: The new Lung Association online store offers a variety of gift ideas, including clothing, hats, masks, travel mugs and more. A portion of every sale funds the work of the Lung Association. Visit the new Lung Association store here.
Money raised by all of these efforts fund the Lung Association’s mission to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the organization’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is an investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.
This holiday season, remember the lights, the ribbons and bows, and the candy canes, but don’t forget to give back to the community. Lean more about how to donate and volunteer at Lung.org.
