Hey Cincinnati, Wear Turquoise Tomorrow, May 9: Help Us Save Lives

Lung Association turns Cincinnati turquoise to raise awareness, help end lung cancer
Pull out your turquoise tie, scarf, socks or any other item tomorrow, Tuesday, May 9, to support the American Lung Association in Ohio’s effort to call attention to the #1 cancer killer in the nation, lung cancer.

The annual Turquoise Takeover celebration unites America to stand together against lung cancer. Each year, the organization turns the nation turquoise, symbolic of clean air and breath. Here in Cincinnati, the Lung Association is illuminating these major landmarks and buildings turquoise:
  • Great American Ballpark (May 11)
  • Paycor Stadium (May 8-10),
  • Cincinnati Sign (May 8),
  • Standex Electronics (May 11),
  • Fountain Square (May 8-14).

In addition, the City of Cincinnati has issued a proclamation in honor of lung health and Busken Bakery is donating proceeds from their cookie & t-shirt sales.

“Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths among both women and men in our state, but there is hope. The five-year survival rate has increased by nearly 40% in the past decade thanks to improved early detection of the disease through lung cancer screening and advancements in research,” said Brittany Sinzinger, Executive Director, of the Lung Association. “There are actions we can all take to reduce the burden of lung cancer in Ohio, so we ask you to join us.”

To help join the effort, we ask the media and public to wear turquoise, take a photo and use #LUNGFORCE.

Want to take it a step further? Here are some other steps people can take next week to help our efforts to end lung cancer:
  1. Get screened for lung cancer if eligible
  2. Test your home for radon
  3. Donate to help achieve a world free of lung cancer

Since 2014, LUNG FORCE has raised over $26 million for lifesaving lung cancer research. Visit LUNGFORCE.org to learn how you can get involved during Lung Cancer Action Week and join the effort to defeat the disease.
