200 Columbus Climbers Raise $76K To End Lung Disease

First Lung Association event at Lower.com Field brings community together for great cause

On Saturday, June 11, 2022, 200 climbers from Columbus and across Ohio participated in the Lung Association in Ohio’s first Fight For Air Climb at Lower.com Field, which featured over 1,900 steps. The event raised $76,000 for the American Lung Association’s local research, education and advocacy efforts.

“We were proud to welcome so many enthusiastic climbers to our new Fight For Air Climb at Lower.com Field – from EMTs, first responders and firefighters to individuals, families, friends and corporate teams,” said Brittany Sinzinger, senior manager of the Lung Association. “Our community came out to support the Lung Association for a great cause. They are all lung health champions.”

The Columbus Fight For Air Climb gave participants an opportunity to embrace the challenge of rigorous exercise in support of those with lung disease who struggle for every breath. Participants climbed 1,910 steps, or the equivalent of scaling 48 floors. The event also featured the “Power Hour Challenge,” which allowed participants to climb the stadium stairs as many times as possible in one hour. The Lung Association offered a “Climb Your Way” virtual option for those who couldn’t attend the event.

Funds raised from the event go directly to the services, educational programs, and research the Lung Association provides in Columbus to support the nearly 1.8 million residents living in Ohio with chronic lung disease. This includes the Lung Association’s COVID-19 Action Initiative, a $25 million investment to address the pandemic and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics.
