Approximately 25 million people in the United States are living with asthma, including 20.2 million adults and 4.8 million children. Asthma remains one of the most common chronic conditions among children and is a leading cause of school absences. Among adults, asthma can significantly impact quality of life and productivity, particularly when not well controlled.
The American Lung Association’s Asthma Educator Institute™ (AEI) is a comprehensive, evidence-based, on-demand training designed to prepare healthcare professionals for the NBRC Asthma Educator Certification (AE-C) exam and to support the implementation of guideline-based asthma care. Developed by asthma experts, the course reflects both the NIH Expert Panel Report 3 and the 2020 Focused Updates to the Asthma Management Guidelines. Through detailed instruction on asthma pathophysiology, assessment, medication, environmental control, and asthma management planning, participants gain the skills needed to educate and support patients and families. The course includes downloadable materials, access for up to six months, and offers 14.0 continuing education credits for a wide range of professionals, including respiratory therapists (CRCE-approved), nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, and physician assistants. The registration fee is $300.
The course is a good fit for professionals working with patients living with asthma and may include, but is not limited to, respiratory therapists, nurses, pharmacists, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and social workers. Whether you are new to the respiratory field or looking to advance your career, the knowledge you gain from the course can help support your goals.
Important: The completion of this course does not result in a credential, designation, or accredited certification.
